Wild Coast quietly expands its range

Wild Coast Publishing is expanding its line of books with a new trilogy examining the early explorations to the Pacific Northwest in the late 18th century, and the men who were central to it all.

The focus is on Nootka Sound, the location that became central to early European explorations as well as a fur trade, a fort marking the Spanish occupation of the Pacific Northwest and ultimately the bloodshed that pushed the world to the brink of war.

The three books are slated to be released in March 2026 and are available for pre-order here

Here are the details.

The Wolves of Nootka Book 1: The Rising of the Wolves

In the late 18th century, a web of remarkable people converged on Nootka Sound, brought by wind, current and the events that were quickly shaping the world. Four men emerged as key players who would shape the future course of the northwest coast the American continent—Royal Navy officer George Vancouver, merchant vessel captain James Colnett, Spanish Navy officer Juan Francisco Bodega y Quadra and the Nootka tyee Maquinna. Drawing from historical journals and records, their stories are brought to life: whether explorers, soldiers in battle or a boy destined to rule over a land and its people. With the backdrop of the American and French revolutions, epic voyages criss-cross the globe in a series of swashbuckling adventures, not as fiction, but as the events actually occurred. These are the Wolves of Nootka— ambitious, capable but often wildly unpredictable men who fought nature and one another to stake their place in history. Alongside is the She-Wolf Hestoquatto, whose story can finally be told, two-hundred and fifty years later.

Format: 6x9 softcover, 370 pages.

The Wolves of Nootka Book 2: The Gathering of the Wolves

Motivated by the prospect of quick riches, explorers and merchants from around the world began a race to Nootka Sound. The details were laid out so clearly in Captain James Cook’s journal, and the premise sounded so simple: sail to the remote American coast, trade valuable furs for trinkets, then sell the furs in China at a huge profit. Unfortunately, the truth turned out to be far more complex. More than storms and hardship at sea, the traders faced two additional adversaries—the defiant people who resided there and the Spanish who claimed the same land as their own. Amid this tumultuous race for riches and military supremacy, four Wolves with their destiny tied to Nootka Sound—George Vancouver, James Colnett, Juan Francisco Bodega y Quadra and Mowachaht tyee Maquinna—battle forces destined to push the world to the brink of war. This second book in The Wolves of Nootka series follows these forces and the men behind them.

Format: 6x9 softcover, 291 pages.

The Wolves of Nootka Book 3: The Clash of the Wolves

In the late 18th century, Spain is determined to claim ownership of the Pacific Northwest, and a single location is chosen to assert Spanish dominance of this vast stretch of coastline: Nootka Sound. Unaware of the trap that awaits, merchants and mariners from around the globe converge upon Nootka in search of quick riches. The clash is quick and catastrophic, with the power halls of Madrid and London threatening war to ensure control. Ensnared in the conflict are four Wolves with their destinies intertwined—George Vancouver, James Colnett, Juan Francisco Bodega y Quadra and Mowachaht tyee Maquinna. Their decisions could set the world on course for peace or catapult it into chaos. Meanwhile, Maquinna has his own choice: tolerate the incursion into his lands or set fire to it all.
