Explore Sooke: French Beach
French Beach is the first leg of a long stretch of the Juan de Fuca coastal parkland. From here it continues almost unbroken to Nootka Sound. The main attraction here is a 1.6-km shoreline of sand and pebbles, with some old second-growth Douglas-fir forest in the upland portion. It has both a vehicle-accessible campsite and a separate group campsite. If features an easy-to-reach beach (especially in comparison to China Creek) by way of a large, grassy picnic site and a playground. In addition there are about 2 km of walking trails through Douglas-fir forest and some marsh areas, plus the beach to stroll. Some of the trails are wheelchair-accessible. It is 20 km west of Sooke and a great family getaway location.
