Explore Sooke: Whiffen Spit

Whiffen Spit Park, Sooke
Sooke has all the ingredients to be a major attraction as a coastal resort town, and attempts are being made to make it such, but it lacks the drama of other coastal locations like Ucluelet and Tofino to make the complete leap. The wonderful exception is Whiffen Spit, a great little strolling park along a lengthy spit at the entrance to Sooke Harbour. The spit is a natural feature reinforced to protect the harbour, and is a great place to watch marine birds attracted by the tidal currents and the shallow sandbar that runs the length of the spit. The trail is a little more than a kilometre end to end with many benches and harbour viewpoints for a great one- to two-hour outing.
